The Work IN Roads: Civil Construction Pathway teacher's training was successful! Seventeen schools are implementing the pathway, guiding kids directly into horizontal construction. First-year teachers immersed themselves in real-world experiences, from touring mines and asphalt plants to job site visits. The second-year teachers' training included trench and crane training and learning about bridge inspection and erosion control.

We were honored to sponsor teachers, the Indianapolis Indians outing, attend the Work IN Roads golf outing, and host teacher dinners! So many companies were involved. It takes an industry to support a program like this, and our teachers saw firsthand that we are an industry full of people who want to educate and support!

Hats off to Indiana Constructors, Inc. - Work IN Roads for their invaluable efforts. The momentum of growth and enthusiasm among school administrators, teachers, and students wouldn't be the same without their initiatives. A special thanks to Megan Haynes, Emily Bay, Brian Carlson, Eric Holmes, Tyler Joseph, David Salo, Andy Schouten and the Indy team for their dedication to the program.

Safety Catch! During his prework inspection, Chris Kaminski, an operator at Phend & Brown, noticed a missing safety chain latch on a piece of equipment. The latch was replaced to ensure safe operating procedures.

Sara has been leading the Stretch and Flex Program for the QC Lab every morning. Due to the nature of the lab's work, she noticed that the pamphlets used were getting worn and destroyed, so she asked management to get more durable laminated copies. Shoot for scholarship was a success with over $17k raised! The Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana - APAI Scholarship aids college students interested in joining the industry. Many of our interns have benefitted from this incredible opportunity, and Rieth-Riley Construction looks forward to supporting the scholarship program every year!

Our very own, Chris Fouts making the Indiana Constructors Leadership Institute highlight! Class of 2024! 🙌

Since 2008, Chris Fouts has been an employee-owner at Rieth-Riley Construction, first as an intern then as estimator and project manager. In 2022, Fouts became sales manager where he leads the team handling estimating and project management assignments for the Cal-Region Area Office.

Outside of the office, he spends time with his wife and son and enjoys golf and home projects.

Spring is here, and with it comes exciting opportunities for workforce development! At Rieth-Riley, we recently hosted four plant tours for Mechanical Engineering and AIS Heavy Equipment students from Eaton RESA Career Preparation Center in Lansing. During the tours, the students were able to witness firsthand how an asphalt plant operates, from the cold feed bins and liquid tanks to the hot asphalt right out of the chop chute! We even took them into the lab and showed them the heavy equipment, as well as discussed the various career opportunities available at Rieth-Riley.

We are thrilled to announce that students are already applying and interviewing with us after learning about our company through these tours. A huge congratulations to Megan Haynes, Dan Larson and the entire Lansing team for planning and hosting such a successful event!

Matt Levenhagen, a shining example of proactive thinking, has installed an "Overhead Power Lines" sign at the Indianapolis yard to help drivers have better visibility of the power lines above. The goal is to prevent future hits and ensure the safety of everyone involved. Great job, Matt!

Our Gary plant got a new MAXAM Transporter Bintop Conveying System for their new silos. It takes the mix from the slat conveyor and distributes it into the different silos. So cool! 🙌

We had an exciting day at the 96th Street Plant with the Civil Construction Pathway students from Pendleton Heights High School! A big thank you to the Indy team for their support in making this program possible. Our team took time out of their day to give the students a hands-on learning experience and provide an overview of how asphalt is made.

Recently, Tom Beebe witnessed an employee using a demo saw to cut pavement. After the cut was complete, the employee shut off the saw, picked it up and carried it away while the blade was still rotating at a very high speed. To reduce risk, Tom referred to the handbook and they discussed how to properly shut down the saw to prevent an accident. It's important to always follow safety guidelines and procedures to prevent any potential accidents.

Being aware of your surroundings is important, especially when working with potentially dangerous materials. Recently, some employees were cleaning out trucks and storing flammable objects inside the shop. However, Logan noticed the items, immediately placed propane tanks outside in a safe location and placed gas on a level surface. This was a great teachable moment for all employees involved.
