n.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777 and costs $18.00 a night. You can show up on Friday and make your reservations with your smart phone if you wish. Expect longer wait times via the phone number. Stainbrook Park:
Stainbrook Park is operated by the Crawford County Conservation District. To reserve a shelter at Stainbrook Park, call the Conservation District at (814) 763-5269 or email [email protected]. Woodcock Creek Lake:
Placidly resting amidst gently rolling hills, Woodcock Creek Lake complements the tranquil rural countryside of central Crawford County. Army Corps of Engineers invites you to visit the project and exchange the hectic sights and sounds of the city for the serene vistas and relaxed atmosphere of Woodcock Creek Lake. Visitors will discover that Woodcock's pleasant surroundings are an ideal setting for outdoor and recreational opportunities. Many exceptional facilities are also provided by the Corps of Engineers which will enhance a visit to the lake. An access roadway which traverses the top of the dam provides visitors with a novel opportunity. Nearly a mile in length, fitness buffs can enjoy a scenic walk, jog or run along the top of the dam. The Bossard Nature Trail is designated as a National Recreation Trail in the National Trails System. Nature enthusiasts have the opportunity to make exciting new discoveries on their own or to walk the self-guided nature trail and perhaps stop to observe nature from one of two observation blinds located along the trail. Approximately 1000 feet of the trail’s pathway is paved and is easily accessible. On weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day, visitors will also enjoy a stopover at Woodcock's Visitor Information Center. A variety of interesting displays are exhibited at the center with interpretive programs and slide shows presented for the public's enjoyment. An overlook on the north shore provides visitors with a scenic area to take photographs or just to relax and enjoy the day. A picnic area located downstream of the dam also offers a beautiful setting for picnicking, fishing, playground fun and relaxation. A spacious campground, developed swim beach, picnic areas and a six lane boat launch are located in the Colonel Crawford Park Area on the south shore. Operated and maintained by Crawford County, the park provides excellent facilities to make your visit to Woodcock Creek Lake a memorable one. Due to the relatively small size of the lake, a 20hp limit is in effect for power boats. This limit helps retain the serene nature of the lake and ensures the safety of other types of pleasure crafts including canoes, sailboats, and sailboards. Woodcock Creek, above and below the dam, as well as the lake, provides exceptionally good fishing opportunities. The creek is a favored trout stream and muskie, bass, walleye and panfish await anglers in the calm waters of the lake. Pennsylvania State Game Lands 435 is found at the eastern end of the project. This provides a public hunting area, as well as excellent wildlife habitat.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will begin accepting live evergreen Christmas trees at Woodcock Creek Lake, which will be used for aquatic habitat improvement projects, beginning Dec. 27.

Visitors may drop off live Christmas trees until Feb. 17, 2025, to the Woodcock Creek Lake Overlook Recreation Area, located directly across from Siverling Road. Signs will be in place to help guide tree drop-offs.

The project office location address is 22079 State Highway 198, Saegertown, PA 16433.

Donations must be free of decorations and non-biodegradable materials. Artificial trees will not be accepted.

Trees will be used for structural fish habitat improvement projects. When anchored to the bottom of a waterbody, evergreen trees promote ideal habitats for attracting and holding a variety of fish species and other aquatic organisms. The facility averages 60 tree donations annually and are placed throughout the lake by project staff.

The decaying woody debris provides food resources necessary for aquatic macroinvertebrates to thrive, thus attracting insects favoring smaller fish species such as yellow perch, rock bass, and bluegill. With smaller prey fish present and hiding amongst the tree limbs, larger predatory fish species, such as smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, and muskellunge, will also frequent the structure, promoting great fishing opportunities for properly-licensed anglers.

For more information or questions, please contact the Woodcock Creek Lake office at (814) 763-4422.

This beautiful Luna Moth, only found in North America, was seen at Woodcock Creek Lake basking in the sun (and to say hello to it’s favorite rangers). This fascinating creature goes through a transformation called metamorphosis, changing from egg to larva, larva to pupa, and finally pupa to a stunning winged adult!

🦋 Luna Moth Fun Facts: 🦋

• The winged adult lacks a mouth or digestive system - because it only lives for about a week after leaving the cocoon, and it doesn't ever eat.
• Featured on a U.S. postage stamp in 1987 – Moth’s were ALL the rage in the 80s.
• A native species – a true North American moth.
• Bats are their main predators – To protect themselves from these predators, the moths spin the tails of their wingtips in circles, almost to say “I am not the moth you are looking for…”

Planning on taking your boat out on Woodcock Creek Lake soon and forgot your life jacket? Don’t sweat it, we have you covered…literally!

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is helping keep kids and adults alike safe by participating in the Life Jacket Loaner Program. This program, made possible by the BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water, allows boaters to borrow a life jacket for the day, free of charge!

When finished boating for the day, return the life jacket back to the loaner station for other boaters to use.

Personal Flotation Devices, or PFDs, are required to be worn at all times on Pittsburgh District managed lakes for:

• Boats under 16 feet in length
• Children 12 and under
• All canoes and kayaks
• Non-swimmers

Just remember: Know, Take, Wear.

Know the waterways. Take a water safety course. Always wear your life jacket.
