More great information from MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife about our neighbors, bats!

Buckle up, it’s Bat Week!
Time to demystify these marvelous mammals & debunk a few myths:
πŸ¦‡ 𝗠𝗬𝗧𝗛: Bats are blind – false! FACT: Bats are adapted to see in dim light. They also use sound waves (echolocation) to help navigate and find food.

πŸ¦‡ 𝗠𝗬𝗧𝗛: All bats drink blood – false! FACT: Out of over 1,400 species of bats in the world, only 3 species (vampire bats, aptly named) lap up blood for their meals. Other bats are solely insectivores, feasting on winged insects (like our 13 fabulous Florida resident bat species) or strictly feed on nectar and fruit (rise up, pollinators!). A few other rare species in the world will eat frogs, crustaceans, or even small fish!

πŸ¦‡ 𝗠𝗬𝗧𝗛: Bats will attack and fly into your hair β€” false! FACT: Bats generally try to avoid people. If in a small space (like a cave) with a bunch of bats, they may fly close while trying to flee but have zero interest in hanging out in your hair. Best practice is to always give bats plenty of space (for you and for them).

Great info from WILD Florida Rescue, we can definitely confrim everything they said as we unfortunately run across these exact same problems when working with bat and raccoon removals that homeowners or other companies have started already.

In this picture with the bat, the incorrect netting was used. The netting shown is know as "bird netting" which has larger openings then "bat netting" which causes the bats to get entangled and unable to free themselves. Knowing which products to use is very important for the safety of the bats. Bats are a protected species and the killing of them can result in a Fine of $1,000 PER BAT from FWC.

When raccoons break into attics, they do so to litter (have babies). In the wild male raccoons will kill juveniles, mothers need to find a safe place to have them.

It's VERY common for a homeowner or "trapper" to set traps and remove the mother, this causes problems as many people don't even realize there is a 99% chance of there being babies in the attic that will not come out on their own.

We use a method that drives the mother out naturally by using predator pheromones. She will sense danger and remove and relocate the babies herself to a safe place and we never have to come in contact with her or her young.

Dealing with wildife has many nuances that the average homeowner isn't trained on. Many pest control companies and professional trappers are also not familiar with their behaviors as well.

We specialize in ONLY animal removal from homes and businesses, are state licensed and take continuing education classes yearly to maintain we stay up to date on all animal behavior and proper humane removal techniques.

Call us for a free consultation and quote so we can help provide a solution that fits your particular needs.

VERY important when you call professionals to exclude bats that you be sure that they are skilled and trained professionals and/or specialized in the wildlife you are trying to remove or prevent from getting in your home. Some devices may kill an animal and that may not be exactly what you wanted. Also animals such as raccoons mainly go into your homes to nest, you may hire someone to remove an adult raccoon then find 4 babies later trapped and starving to death or already dead. Often it then becomes our heartbreaking problem. SO please pass this to anyone you may feel needs to know. 1. Do research when calling a professional for nuisance wildlife. 2 Call WFR or your local wildlife rescue for advice on wildlife issues, we are not a nuisance removal but advice may be all you need to get through the concerns you have, we may be able to help so that the animal is safe and you keep safe and so does your home!! This poor bat got stuck in netting during an exclusion. Poor Lil guy and during Halloween month! πŸŽƒ πŸ§›β€β™‚οΈ We were super happy that the Pest Control went back out to the home, freed the bat and replaced the netting with a wildlife friendly bat excluder! πŸ‘ Thank you!

Did you know that almost 50% of all Americans work for a small business?

Supporting local small businesses is very important as we live in your community and spend our money at other local businesses too.

This is why many times you'll see us put up post where we tag other companies that are locally owned that we work with and reccomed.

Choosing to go with locally owned and operated companies helps everyone in the community and is the backbone of the country.

Annnd another one....

This plumbing issue was created when a home was remodel and the second sink wasn't capped off before they sealed the wall back up. They basically went from a two sink setup to a single sink.

This allowed free access of sewer rats into the walls of the home, and yes, all that brown "nasty" stuff is from the rats. It's called "rub" which is essentially greese their skin produces as they run back and forth over the plumbing.

We were able to locate the problem and with the help of Space Coast Plumbing ,sealed it for the customer.

Alright, you've heard us say it before, and you'll hear us say it again now.

If you live in a home that was built before 1975, you either had or still have cast iron plumbing. Cast iron rust and breaks down over time and allows sewer rats access to your attic and inside your walls.

Here is an example of a recent job we're working on and the results of our plumbing test showing a break.

Our customer is having a plumber meet us to find exactly where it is and get it fixed.

If you have an older home and have had ongoing rat issues for years, give us a call, we are one of the only companies in Central Florida with the resources and knowledge to understand and fix this complex problem.

Yup, these are one of our areas new problems. Seeing the beachside a lot now....

One of the most pervasive invasive species is on the move to Central Florida. There are thousands of green iguanas in the southern part of the state, but sightings are increasing in our neck of the woods.

Sounds good to me, let's just see my fat butt huffin and puffin from the first second the starters gun goes off! πŸ˜‚
