Life Before Recovery? I would pop pills, smoke w**d, and drink anything so I could silence the mental war in my mind.I lived in desolation, isolation, and separation from God!

What brought you through the doors of Celebrate Recovery?

After losing so many loved ones to opioids and then witnessing my own mother’s overdose due to my actions, I realized I needed help. I had three young girls that I refused to raise in hell. I knew I could not do it without Jesus Christ. While in rehab, I met a Christian named Mr. Bobby Ward, who introduced me to his incredible, spirit-filled wife, Sybil Ward. She showed me through her testimony that recovery was possible with Christ. She made me curious about how Celebrate Recovery worked.

How has your life changed since attending CR? I have been off the Iliad for over six years.

I thought I just had a drug problem, but Celebrate Recovery showed me the deeper-rooted issues within my life that needed to be addressed and uprooted. My drug issue was just a reaction to my hurts, habits, and hang-ups. I always tell people that a struggle without a strategy will keep you stagnant. The step studies at Celebrate Recovery gave me plenty for my battle, and I have not been stagnant since. I am now a Mighty Woman of God, raising three world changers. I’m leading in several areas of my local church and Celebrate Recovery. I truly enjoy the light in the morning. My heart spent the whole of Thanksgiving

Hope for the Newcomer? Recovery is possible. Joy is possible. When we surrender our hurts to Jesus, he takes our pain and propels it into purpose. You have to keep coming even when you don’t feel like it. God sees what you do. He is working on your behavior. Every time you decide to get up and come to a meeting, you take a step of faith. Jesus sees it and begins to go to work on your behavior. So walk by faith, not by sight.

Thanks for sharing your God-filled story with us all, Brittany.

Any and every breakthrough is a gift from our good Father. But how glorious are the victories snatched out of the jaws of defeat. How mighty are the breakthroughs after you’ve endured an intense battle! Our battle scars testify to our battle strength.

A blessing for your morning.♄

Weekend Blessing: This is for those who’ve walked a long road of heartbreak, sickness, insecurity, or addiction. For those who’ve gone too long without seeing the sun. For those who’ve lost heart and hope because the battle rages on. This blessing is for you: May you rest right here, in this place, and see Jesus’ provision here. May our mighty God roll up His sleeves, reach down from on high, and rescue YOU because He delights in you - He really does. May God break through in this very place and breathe fresh life into your soul. May your valley of weeping fill to the brim with pools of blessing (Ps.84:6). May Jesus lift your chin so you can look to Him and be RADIANT with no shred of shame on you (Ps.34:5). May Jesus restore your soul in a way that surprises and blesses you. And from one traveler to another: I DO believe and KNOW that God cares about our battle, intervenes in ways we cannot see, and will come through for us in ways that only He can. May you hang on and hang in there until then. We’re in this together.

Psalm 18:16-19 NLT ~ He reached down from heaven and rescued me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me. They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the Lord supported me. He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me.

Two things that my friend Rob Reimer says that are reverberating through my soul are these: 1. You can have as much of God as you want; but not more than you’re willing to pay the price for. 2. There are some places and spaces God wants to take you that you’ll not experience on just a devotional diet (my paraphrase). You need to make room for Him. Create time and space to hear from Him. If you seek Him you will find Him. When you draw near, He draws nearer still. I marvel at His goodness. I’m comforted by His nearness. I’m in awe that He’s willing to confide in me and tell me things I’d never otherwise know. Though He hears our cry and answers our prayers, He’s our best gift by far. And we already have Him. The enemy knows his time is short and he’s pulling out all the stops to distract and discourage believers. But if you will set your face like flint and pursue God with all of who you are, you will find Him in the most miraculous, providential ways. That we have access to the inner throne room of Almighty God is a privilege beyond description. That we shrug our shoulders at such a gift and strive for cheap substitutes is a curious thing. We’re prone to wander, yet our Good Shepherd always finds us and leads us back to the path of life. We’re blessed beyond measure. May we increase our pursuit with holy expectancy. He’s a good God and loves us with an everlasting love. đŸ™â€ïžđŸ”„â˜€ïž

CR's Eight Recovery Principles

The Road to Recovery Based on the Beatitudes

Realize I’m not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable. (Step 1) “Happy are those who know that they are spiritually poor.” Matthew 5:3a TEV

Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover. (Step 2) “Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 TEV, NIV

Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control. (Step 3) “Happy are the meek.” Matthew 5:5a TEV
