Today, we celebrate all the hardworking and inspiring women in our world! To strive for a more equitable one, we must empower women around us, recognize their achievements, and challenge gender discrimination. Happy IWD!

On Tuesday November 19th I (Christy lol)had the opportunity to do some training for the Hort students and garden keepers at Kenwood Academy high school in Hyde park! The tall handsome man next to me is alderman Lamont Robinson. It was a blast, we talked, we worked, we ate pizza and hugged it out in closing! Hats off to Principal Calloway, she’s engaged and all about her kids!
FAST FORWARD….
On Thursday, November 21st, TODAY we’re plowing snow trying to catch up on what we thought would be a light dusting per all reporting! Thank you to all our clients for being patient and next week we’ll be back to collect the last of your leaves!

Four friends who met while working at Half Acre wanted to offer a sunny, friendly spot in their own neighborhood.

On the 26th of August a terrible storm came across Lake Michigan after passing through Chicago. As it hit the bottom half of the lake the winds whipped up spawning tornadoes that never touched down but destroyed small towns from New Buffalo to Lakeside - taking out homes and 100's of mature trees. In my community of Gordon Beach our little park was devasted, along with many of our homes. Yesterday, for the first time in decades, our community planted dozens of new trees to begin rebuilding our native tree cover!

Hello Eveyone!
I’d rather be posting beautiful landscape photos and talking about that but to me this is just as important!

2 hours ago a skinny long haired white dude with his white girlfriend in a pony tail walked directly into our yard and drove off with one of our trucks. GPS helped until the driver pitch it out the window, an iPad helped until IT was pitched out of the truck too!

However, it was our Westside community that found the IPad alerted us and my guys spotted the truck. The race was on!!!

I only post this because all of us from Christy Webber landscapes and beyond appreciate our community and especially our Westside neighbors! Thank you so much for helping!

The truck is back after a long slow gad around from Sacramento and Chicago to Belmont and Laramie. We took it back after the driver and passenger spotted us and fled.

Thank you Brendan and Jose for sticking with it and getting it back!

A win for the good guys… all of us from the Westside of Chicago!

5 Fun Facts About Cicadas:

1. This is the first year since 1803 that both 13 year and 17 year broods will both emerge. This occurs every 221 years. Unfortunately, we will only see the 17 year brood in the Chicagoland area. In our state the crossover emergence will occur in central Illinois.
2. Cicadas are harmless to humans and pets. They do not bite or sting. They’re just annoyingly loud.
3. The sound you hear a cicada make is the male mating call. Only the male sings. Each species has a unique call so the females can find them and mate with the right species.
4. Cicadas do not defoliate trees. They have piercing sucking mouthparts but only briefly feed on the sap before mating, laying eggs and dying.
5. The damage cicadas cause is from the female laying her eggs in the branch tips with a special organ called an ovipositor. This can cause some branch dieback at the tips. Healthy mature trees will be fine and do not require protection. Young trees under 2” or newly planted trees could be impacted by the branch tip dieback. Insect netting with ¼” or less holes or tulle fabric can be used to wrap young or newly planted trees.
