Originally established in 1901 as a working dry dock, the Navy Yard stands as a testament to over a century of naval history and innovation in Charleston. In its earlier days, Storehouse 8 housed Navy administration offices and stored essential materials. Now, it has been adapted into a vibrant space, perfect for restaurants, offices, and events. Next to it, Storehouse 8.5, a newly constructed building, adds fresh potential for tenants like a coffee shop or oyster bar, seamlessly blending with its historical surroundings. Storehouse 9, originally built for shipbuilding materials, now houses 86 residential units and an inviting rooftop that would be ideal for a bar or restaurant.
It was a priority to Edifice Construction, the Navy Yard Charleston and the design team lead by Post Loyal to maintain the historical significance and character of the area while updating the buildings to meet today’s standards.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post about the challenges we overcame! #EdificeConstruction #HistoricPreservation #NavyYardCharleston
