Just wanted to share that Island remodels and faux finishes has found a positive way to give back to the community that has given me so much. I was in Waffle House a couple weeks ago and overheard a lady explaining to her friend that she couldn't display her recently deceased war veteran husbands flag because she couldn't afford the shadow box to put it in. I then took it upon myself to look up prices for them and also to see if there were any places that donate them to those in need. I have to say I was shocked to learn the average price was $100. I fully understand the pride of that folded flag and what it means to the family presenting it. My father drove PT boats in Vietnam, my grandfather's served in WWII and the Korean war, and a brother who lost his life in Fallujah in 2003. No family who lost a loved one that served this country should have to pay that amount of money to honor those that deserve to be remembered and honored. As owner and Operator of Island Remodels and Faux Finishes, I've decided to build and donate shadow boxes for families of veterans in need, as well as donate 5 percent of all future work toward the wounded warrior project, as it is a non profit that is making big impacts in wounded veterans lives. I am proud to be a part of that and look forward to helping and meeting families of the brave men and women who made the greatest sacrifice. I will ask for no money, nothing in return, just a simple picture of the flag being displayed proudly.
I will be asking for anyone that can donate scrap materials such as plexiglass/ glass, someone possibly who could cut glass to size, baseboard/ crown Moulding scraps 25 inches or longer and 4 inches wide, etc .. it is an opportunity to be part of something giving back to those who gave more than most will ever know. If you or anyone you know is in need of a flag box or even in need of a replacement box, please send me name and info and I will be sure to get them the box they deserve to honor and remember their loved one.
Here are my first two, honoring war veterans David L Curry USN, and Ronald Towne, USMC and there living families.
Thank you and I look forward to giving back something important to others, just as you folks in this community have given me. Thank you all and may your day be blessed.
